80 Summers - Poem

80 Summers,
to bask under the sun.
Experience,
before all is undone.

Limits of life,
are to open your eyes.
To let you see,
beyond your current dreams.

Breathe in the day,
soak in the rays.
Listen to the rustle,
watch the tree sway.

Passion for life and love,
for everyone.
Be who you are again,
a single day.

For a single day now,
forget your pain.
Free yourself from life’s strains,
and let now reign.

Now is the time to live.
Experience.
Take in this abundance,
it’s not by chance.

You have this precious life,
this time is yours.
Have passion once again,
do not contain.

Let it pulse through your veins,
be as it may.
Freedom through all the pain,
is yours to gain.

80 Summers,
may they be,
80 Summers,
that set you free.

Do you have more poetry I can read?

I really LOVE this poem Holly. It is really thought provoking and I completely feel the same way. You really must be in touch with your inner self. That is something I want to be. For me personally it’s hard to grasp how short life really is.

For a long time I believed that the summer of 1993 was the best summer of my life. Maybe that sounds strange I know (long story)!

Maybe getting older has enlightened me to realize there is no better time than the here and now.

Today is ONLY what you make it.

I want to make my life a journey and not a destination.

Hey Jerry and thank you for the great feedback! I do have a lot more poetry - recent poems and some very old ones I recently found (lots of journals from the teenage years). I will start to post more on here. Thanks for the comment. Do you ever write?

That would be awesome to read more Holly. I’ve written a lot of lyrics and some poetry but not really anything recently. Maybe I can post some too when I get back home. I am on vacation until September and trying to stay offline but I can’t help myself since they have wifi at the beach condo I am at:) Ok, take care and I will look forward to reading more!

Wow… that kinda choked me up. What a beautiful reminder about the gift of life.

Thanks for the blessed reminder… just made my morning, and if I treat it right, my day :-)

Well good! Thank you for leaving such a nice compliment Dave. :) I wrote a poem about life again today - mostly about what happened in Haiti.

    Hello.
I do not speak the English language, communicate across a translator.

After reading your poem… I wonder… Because 80 summers??? Because not only 1 summer …??? Because not only 1 I come second???

The life is extraordinary because it(she) is beautiful… This cruel one because algun day was ending… We all die in opposition to our will…

I think that I can toast myself under the Sun in 1 second… But this second debit of not being lived and not surviving…

80 summers not diran that I am happy … the happiness every human being constructs it… With every second that happens(passes)… One decides if sera happy…

Serious good to exchange poetry(poem)… I have written 50 poems and 2 novels … soon 1 will publish… There was titled ” Honor’s Sword “… Probably your literary contribution is very good for my growth…

    I wait for your response.

    Atte.

Hi Nagib and thank you for the comment! I wrote 80 summers because I was thinking about life and how much I actually enjoyed summertime - and realized I’d be lucky if I even had 80 summers to experience in my whole life. When you think about it like that - it is terribly short and makes you realize that and appreciate and cherish each day or summer or moment or second! So, do you have any poetry online? That is wonderful you have written so many poems - I have become really passionate about writing and love poetry…started writing little poems at the age of 5. Anyway, thank you again for your comment and I hope you have a wonderful day Nagib - take care ok!
